SkinTyte II

SkinTyte II is a highly advanced skin tightening treatment that is more effective than other alternatives. At Perfect Skin Center in Scottsdale, AZ, we offer treatment with this extremely powerful, gentle device so our clients can enjoy tight, smooth, beautiful skin. Today, we discuss everything you need to know about treatment with this device.

What Is SkinTyte II?

SkinTyte II is a device that uses pulsed light technology to heat your skin. This innovative laser treatment is far safer than other laser treatments because so much time and effort have been poured into researching and improving laser technology over the past several years. Previously, lasers were unsafe for individuals with certain skin types. Contrastingly, this device can be used to enhance the appearance of loose, sagging skin for people of any skin type.

How to Prepare for Treatment

To prepare for your SkinTyte II treatment, you should discontinue the use of blood thinners, such as MAOIs, NSAIDs, anti-platelet medications and anti-coagulants. You should also avoid any nutritional supplements or herbs that can thin the blood, like vitamin E supplements, garlic supplements and ginger. We will provide you with a comprehensive list of drugs and supplements you should avoid when you come in for your initial consultation.

What To Do Before Treatment

Besides avoiding anything with potential contraindications to the treatment, there are several things you should do to prepare. For example, you should wash your face before you come in for your session with a gentle facial soap and warm water. You should also shave the day before your treatment session with a sharp razor and shaving cream. You don’t want hair in the treatment area but you also don’t want skin irritated by a dull razor.

If you have a history of cold sores, it is very important that you take preventative medication in the two weeks leading up to your treatment. If you have a cold sore in the area targeted for treatment, we must reschedule your session until your skin clears up. You must also wear sunscreen with a minimum sun protection factor of 30 in the weeks leading up to your treatment. Your treatment will be rescheduled if you have a sunburn on the day of your appointment.

How It Works

This device tightens your skin by emitting short bursts of light energy. This energy penetrates the outer layers of your skin, warming the deepest layers of your skin thoroughly. The energy that is emitted and works its way through your outer layers of skin encourages the deepest layers of your skin to produce collagen. Collagen is a type of protein that looks, under a microscope, much like a soccer net.

This protein is one of the most important chemical compounds regarding skin health and beauty. It is one of the primary supporting structures, keeping your skin tight and smooth. While there are several causes of wrinkles, collagen loss is one of the two most common. Inadequate collagen is also the cause of sagging skin. If you can keep your skin producing enough collagen, you won’t see the signs of aging for decades.

What You Can Expect During Treatment

During your treatment session, the SkinTyte device will emit light in a series of rapid pulses. You will feel pulses of warmth in the deepest layers of your skin but the outer layer of your skin will not feel uncomfortable. The SkinTyte II device cools the surface of your skin constantly throughout the 30-minute treatment session.

If you have a low tolerance for heat, we can apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. Just let us know before your scheduled appointment that you would like your skin to be numbed. It does not take long for the cream to take effect so you can still receive treatment on your lunch break.

The Effect of Treatment on Your Eyes

You do not need to worry about the laser damaging your eyes during treatment. Regardless of where your skin health is being improved, you will be given eye protection designed specifically to protect your eyes from this device’s light.

Areas That Can Be Targeted

You can receive Skintyte II treatments on virtually any part of your body that is experiencing loose skin. It is commonly used to treat sagging face and neck skin but it can also be used to tighten loose, sagging skin affecting the body. For example, it is commonly used to erase wrinkles and tighten loose skin affecting the chest region. It is also the ideal solution for people with sagging abdominal skin caused by rapid, monumental weight loss.

The Results You Can Realistically Expect

The results you can realistically expect depend on how loose your skin was before treatment, how many sessions you receive and how well you care for your skin after the treatment. Most people experience a 75 to 95% reduction in skin laxity after a full series of treatments. People with rosacea or hyperpigmentation caused by telangiectasia can experience a 50% improvement in the appearance of the skin.

This treatment is usually used to correct loose, sagging skin. However, you may experience an improvement in the appearance of hyperpigmentation caused by telangiectasia, rosacea, mild-to-moderate acne scarring, flushed skin patches, liver spots, lines and wrinkles. Again, how much of an improvement you can achieve depends on a number of factors. If you’re not satisfied with your results, schedule a follow-up session.

What This Treatment Can’t Do

As stated previously, this device induces collagen production and inadequate collagen is one of the primary causes of skin concerns. However, it is not an effective solution for all skin concerns. For example, it will not treat severe acne scars, other deep or raised scars or wrinkles and folds caused by hyperactive muscles.

If you have any of those skin concerns, we will work with you during your initial evaluation to create a treatment plan that achieves all of your goals. For example, we offer Botox for moderate-to-severe wrinkles caused by hyperactive muscles.

How Many Sessions You Will Need To Achieve Your Ideal Results

You may need up to five treatment sessions to achieve your ideal results. However, if you notice your skin laxity soon enough, you will only need two or three sessions to restore the tightness of your skin. If you want to know how many sessions you will need to achieve a particular result in a particular region of your body, you will need to come in for an assessment.

Depending on the type of skin problem you are trying to correct and its severity, we recommend scheduling two or three sessions spaced three or four weeks apart. It is important to wait several weeks between treatments because it takes your skin a while to produce extra collagen. Furthermore, while this treatment is non-invasive, your skin still needs a significant period of rest after each session.

How Soon You Can See Your Final Results

You will see the final results of your treatment after your skin has finished producing extra collagen. For most people, this process is complete in three to six months. Therefore, it can take you nearly a year to see your final results if you need five sessions spaced a month apart and then your skin takes six months to produce extra collagen.

There’s not too much you can do to speed up the process but there are things you can do to avoid hindering the collagen production process. For example, if you want to see your final results as quickly as possible, you must not smoke or consume any other product containing nicotine in the first three months after your final session. You should also abstain from drinking alcohol and ensure you are not deficient in any nutrients. Adequate sleep is also essential.

How Often You Will Need Follow-Up Treatments

Once you have finished your series of treatments, it will be a while before you need a maintenance session. If you are treating liver spots caused by extensive sun damage, you may never need a maintenance treatment if you protect your skin from the sun adequately. If you are treating mild-to-moderate acne scars and get your acne under control, you will never need a follow-up treatment.

You should only expect to need a follow-up treatment if you are treating a skin problem caused by aging. You can’t stop the effects of aging on your skin permanently. You can only slow the process temporarily. If you are experiencing sagging skin due to collagen loss, you may need a maintenance session every couple of years. You will need maintenance sessions less frequently if you take care of your skin health and overall health.

Actionable Steps You Can Take To Improve Your Skin Health

There are several actionable steps you can take to improve the health of your skin and collagen. While a comprehensive list is beyond the scope of this article, we will now briefly highlight the most important things you can do. The most important thing you can do to maintain the health of your skin and keep it producing as much collagen as it can is staying hydrated. Hydration needs vary but most people are hydrated when they drink around a gallon of water daily.

The second most important thing you can do to keep your skin healthy is to eat nutrient-dense foods while limiting your consumption of unhealthy foods as much as possible. Your PCP can advise you on any foods you must incorporate into your diet based on any nutritional deficiencies you have. If you have no such deficiencies, focus on eating fruits or veggies and lean protein with every meal. Limit your consumption of added sugars and unhealthy fats.

What You Should Do During Your Recovery Process

After your session, you will not experience any pain or discomfort, even if you did not opt for a topical numbing cream. You are free to return to work and apply makeup and other cosmetics as you see fit. However, it is very important to protect your skin from potential sun damage adequately in the weeks following your treatment. To do this, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen when you go outside and reapply it every four hours or as directed on the bottle.

If you can’t stand the smell of traditional sunblock, buy a brush-on sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Just make sure you follow the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding how often you should reapply it. Furthermore, keep your sunscreen in a cool, dry place. Do not store it in your warm, humid bathroom. If it is stored improperly, it will lose efficacy.

Unlike some other light energy-based treatments, it is safe for most healthy individuals with any skin tone or type.
