Discover the Benefits of Laser Skin Treatments

Laser Skin Treatments

There are many topical creams currently available for rejuvenating your skin. Although some of them will provide minimal results, one of the most effective ways to rejuvenate your skin is with laser skin treatments. There have been consistent technological advancements made in this field during the last several years. Although these improvements have made the treatment even more effective, numerous individuals are a little overwhelmed by the different types of treatments in addition to the skin issues that can be effectively resolved. Laser skin resurfacing can reduce or eliminate blemishes, scars and wrinkles on your skin. The latest technologies provide the medical professional with extreme precision and more control.

Laser skin resurfacing can effectively treat a wide range of cosmetic issues. This includes:

  • Wrinkles or fine lines beneath or around the eyes, mouth and forehead
  • Skin damaged from the sun or age
  • An improvement in a grayish or yellowish skin tone
  • Liver spots
  • Enlarged oil glands located on the nose
  • Scarring resulting from chickenpox or acne
  • Birthmarks
  • Warts
  • Non-responsive skin resulting from a facelift

The treatment works through the short, pulsating beams of concentrated light the medical professional directs at irregular skin. An extremely precise technique is used for the removal of layers of damaged and unwanted skin. This type of treatment should not cause issues with skin lightening or hyperpigmentation like many of the procedures for removing acne scars. During a laser skin treatment, the epidermis or top layer of your skin is removed. Your dermis or underlying skin is heated at the same time. This will stimulate your body’s production of collagen fibers. Once the area you have had treated heals, firmer and smoother new skin will form. Not everyone is a good candidate for this treatment. That’s one of the reasons why a consultation is so important.

Laser skin treatments are effective for treating numerous skin issues and conditions including:

  • Birthmarks
  • Dark circles beneath the eyes
  • Acne scarring
  • Uneven skin color and brown spots
  • Spider veins
  • Undesirable tattoos
  • Scars
  • Crow’s feet
  • Aging skin issues including wrinkles, fine lines and age spots on the face
  • Smoker’s lines
  • Sagging, dry or drooping eyelid skin
  • Vascular lesions
  • Unwanted hair
  • Frown lines
  • Loose skin
  • Uneven skin texture and tone
  • Pucker marks

The only way laser resurfacing is safe is if an experienced and trained medical professional performs the procedure. The treatment for a lot of skin issues can be enhanced when lasers are used in conjunction with another type of treatment or therapy. A good example is using Fraxel lasers. This treatment involves making extremely tiny openings in your skin. When your body starts healing these microscopic channels, your collagen production will increase. Adding a topical treatment to the process will increase the absorption rate of your skin.

One of the most commonly used techniques with lasers are dermal fillers and BOTOX®. The fillers will plump the skin, the BOTOX® will relax the muscle to help prevent the formation of new wrinkles due to common facial expressions and the lasers effectively resurface the skin. The best way to receive optimal results is to listen to the recommendations of the medical professional. This will prevent you from needing different treatments constantly. There are certain skin issues best treated with more than one modality. Other issues can be effectively treated with just laser skin treatments. This determination is made by the medical professional.

The Procedure for Laser Skin Treatments

Once you decide you want to have laser skin resurfacing, you need to schedule an appointment with a medical professional to make certain you are a good candidate for the procedure. The professional should be trained and experienced with this treatment. Once you have been approved for the procedure, your current health, medical history and expectations will be considered. Your expectations must be kept realistic. Some issues can be eliminated completely while others can be improved. If you ever get blisters or cold sores on your lips or around your mouth, you need to tell the medical professional. This can cause you to break out from the treatment. Once you make the decision to have a laser treatment, you will need to stop using certain medications that impact the results a set amount of time prior to your treatment.

If you currently smoke, you will need to quit before and after your treatment. Smoking will slow down your healing process. If you get either fever blisters or cold sores, you will most likely receive a prescription for an antiviral medication and an antibiotic to prevent you from having a bacterial infection. Taking these medications as prescribed is very important. To help ensure you receive optimal results, your skin may be prepared in advance through a series of treatments for your skin. This may or may not be recommended by the medical professional. This procedure will be customized for your specific skin type to maximize the benefits from your laser skin treatment.

Your treatment will most likely be performed as an outpatient procedure. Your treatment will take place in the comfort of our office. Do keep in mind that there are several different types of lasers that may be used for this procedure. This includes:

  • The CO2 laser: The CO2 laser has been used for the treatment of numerous skin conditions by medical professionals for many years. The more recent CO2 lasers have enough power for the delivery of an energy with a short pulsed light. This is called continuous light beams or ultrapulsed. This laser treats numerous issues with a precise removal of thin layers of your skin.
  • The Non-Ablative Laser: This type of layer does not remove the outer layer of your skin using heat. The impact of the laser is below the surface of your skin. Your skin tone is improved by the tightening of your underlying tissue and the stimulation of your collagen growth. This is a good option for mild to moderate damage to your skin and the removal of fine lines.
  • The Erbium Laser: This laser is effective for the removal of moderate and superficial wrinkles and lines.

Laser skin treatments can be used for the treatment of birthmarks, broken capillaries, vascular lesions, spider veins, rosacea, stretch marks and fine lines, among many other issues. Once your treatment has been completed, your sensitivity to sunlight may temporarily increase. You should minimize your exposure to the sun and use a high-quality sunscreen on a daily basis. You may notice an immediate improvement in the areas you had treated. The improvements will continue in the months that follow. In some cases, the improvements have lasted for years. Due to the normal process of aging, expression lines and wrinkles will eventually form. You can safely have as many laser skin treatments as you need.

The Many Benefits of Laser Skin Treatments

Acne scars can remain for a long period of time. Eventually, the acne may return in full force. As the body starts to age, acne scars can take a long time to diminish. When an adult experiences acne, they often become frustrated. There are topical products available. Although the results vary, they are temporary. The best way to eliminate stubborn acne scars and restore the proper function of the skin is with a laser treatment.

Most people love being in the sun. Unfortunately, the nice glow over the summer often results in pigmentation, discoloration and sunspots as time passes. Even without a lot of exposure to the sun, the aging process changes the tone and texture of the skin. Discoloration can be addressed naturally and easily with laser skin treatments.

The results of your treatment even out your skin tone. This provides you with the benefit of a youthful and fresh glow. Many women do not feel the need to use as many cosmetics after their treatment. Anti-aging serums do offer good benefits until the aging process starts to impact the skin. Eventually, this will result in fine lines and wrinkles. Smiling often equals happiness. This being said, the result is the formation of lines around the mouth or smile lines. Most individuals become irritated with the presence of these lines. One of the worst issues caused by aging is the decline of the production of natural collagen. Collagen is what enables your skin to be smooth, tight and free of wrinkles and lines. Laser skin treatments restore the ability of your skin to heal and fill in wrinkles and fine lines.

When laser energy is directed under the surface of your skin, your blood vessels regain the ability to perform properly and your collagen is stimulated. Your production of collagen will decline as the aging process takes effect. Over time, this results in a loss of elasticity and sagging skin. Laser skin resurfacing is an excellent option as opposed to having plastic surgery. The treatment is much milder than surgery and does not involve incisions or a lengthy healing process. This will eliminate a lot of stress on your body, discomfort and scarring. The procedure can tighten your skin, bring back the youthful glow, smooth out scarring and make you appear younger. To receive the best possible results, a series of treatments may be recommended depending on the treatment.
