What Does Vein Detection Involve?
Vein detection is a procedure that is often performed before administering injections to ensure that substances like BOTOX® or Juvederm® do not end up in a vein. It will also prevent the injector from making multiple injections while trying to avoid veins. While many clients have visible and easily detectable veins near the surface of the skin, some do not. Our staff at Perfect Skin Center will perform vein detection on such individuals to ensure their safety.
During vein detection, we will place a handheld device just a little above the treatment site. The device emits infrared light that illuminates the client’s veins. The hemoglobin or red pigment in the patient’s blood can absorb infrared light and, thus, make the veins highly visible through the skin.
Since the technology does not involve lasers, there is no risk of it overheating or burning the client. The light, however, is very bright, and the client should avoid looking directly into it.
