Rejuvenate Your Skin with Laser Skin Resurfacing

Few people are fortunate enough to have perfect skin. Problems like scars due to acne or injury, sunspots, wrinkles and skin discoloration leave many people with diminished feelings of self-esteem and a deep desire to correct their skin problems.

Fortunately, laser skin resurfacing can help to rejuvenate your skin by minimizing skin imperfections that you have been dealing with. The procedure involves the use of a medical laser to break molecular bonds of injured skin cells, resulting in a more uniform, smoother skin surface.

Ideal Candidates

For many patients, laser skin resurfacing helps significantly reduce the appearance of problems like fine lines and wrinkles, irregular skin pigmentation and scars due to acne or trauma. It can also help those who have wrinkles or abnormal pigmentation.

The ideal laser skin resurfacing candidate has skin that is non-oily, elastic and not prone to developing scars. The treatment also works best for those who do not currently take certain prescription medications or have health conditions that might hamper their recovery.

Good candidates have realistic expectations regarding the results of their treatment. Patients are encouraged to be informed about what to expect during and after the procedure. Only a consultation with our team of professionals can determine if laser skin resurfacing is right for you.

The Treatment Process

During your treatment session, a special device is passed over the surface of your skin. This device will emit a short burst of laser light that will break up the upper skin layers. Once your skin heals, the old skin will be replaced by much healthier, youthful skin.

One way various laser skin resurfacing methods differ is the degree to which they penetrate the skin. There are three categories of laser skin resurfacing devices. Ablative lasers work by uniformly affecting the skin, much like a deep chemical peel or dermabrasion. Each pass of the wand will remove another thin layer or your skin. Rather than removing skin, non-ablative lasers cause heat damage to the upper or deeper layers of skin.

Fractional lasers may be ablative or non-ablative. This method involves coaxing the body into responding to fractionated laser light. This is a great option for people with acne scars or aging skin.
