Dermal fillers are specific in their chemical makeup, and different brands are used by professionals to correct certain skin texture problems, primarily on the face. Hyaluronic acid fillers work by drawing in and holding moisture within dermal and subdermal tissues. Restylane® is one of the most popular of these fillers. Composed of a gel, it is injected beneath the skin to add volume and reduce the visibility of moderate creasing and folding in certain areas.
We encourage you to contact us to learn more about how Restylane® works and if it is the best solution for any facial skin surface irregularities you are experiencing. This gel comes in several different forms, each of which is intended for use to target a specific concern.
Am I a Good Candidate for Restylane®?
Restylane® can be injected for the purpose of smoothing out small folds on the facial skin. If your concern is nasolabial folds or odd-looking dimples around the sides of the mouth, chances are this treatment can help.
If you have lines, wrinkles, or a loss of facial volume, Restylane® can also help with this. Some clients are found to be suitable candidates for this treatment as a means to correct severe folding around the corners of the mouth, but a consultation is necessary to determine whether this folding is being caused by fatty deposits or a loss of subdermal support.
How Does It Work?
Restylane® contains tiny hyaluronic acid spheres. This acid is a type of polysaccharide and is produced naturally by the body to help keep the skin moist. In concentrated amounts, hyaluronic acid can act as a plumping agent because it holds any moisture it comes into contact with.
The acid in Restylane® is non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid, or NASHA. It is not derived from animal products, making it extremely safe for use. No pre-treatment allergy testing is required before receiving the injections.
Once injected, the acid integrates with the subdermal tissues and immediately begins to attract water. The water molecules stick to the gel, and these molecules, in turn, attract and hold additional water molecules. The visual effect is almost immediate. Folds and creases all but disappear.
Specialized Forms of Restylane®
Various gel thicknesses, each with a specific malleability, are used to treat a targeted crease or fold. During the consultation, we will suggest a particular formula and dosage and explain why this choice is the suitable one for the area of concern.
