Common Causes of Cellulite

cellulite

Cellulite is something that nobody wants because it can negatively affect your overall appearance and self-esteem. If you have this condition on a certain area of your body, you’ll notice a dimpled, lumpy appearance.

The thighs and buttocks are the areas of the body where cellulite is most noticeable. It’s not uncommon for it to develop after puberty, and it goes by several different names.

According to some of the latest statistics, this condition will affect 90 percent of women. If you haven’t already dealt with the problem, then there is a good chance that you will in the future.

Different Types

It’s useful to understand the different types of cellulite. The first type produces no clinical symptoms, and you can only see it using a microscopic examination of your cells.

The second type can cause your skin to show pallor or pastiness, and it can even reduce skin elasticity while lowering its temperature. This form can also be observed with microscopic examination.

The third type is quite common and causes your skin to look rough. If you’re dealing with this form, you might notice your skin is starting to look like an orange peel. This condition can affect men and women, but it’s much more common among women.

What are the Most Common Causes?

Unfortunately, scientists still don’t completely understand the causes of cellulite, but there are several popular theories. It’s believed that one of the top causes is related to hormonal factors. Your hormones can play a significant role in the development of this skin condition.

Some scientists believe thyroid, noradrenaline, insulin, prolactin and estrogen are involved, but they aren’t sure how these hormones work together to cause the condition. Another common cause is genetics.

There are certain genes that are needed to create cellulite, and your genes might predispose you to its development. It’s also possible that your genes affect your metabolism, circulatory efficiency, race, distribution of fat and gender, which are all factors that play a role.

Diet and lifestyle factors can also determine whether or not you end up with the condition. If your diet contains too much fat, salt and carbohydrates, then your body is much more likely to develop cellulite.

Some scientists believe that this condition is much more common among smokers, and people who don’t exercise are likely to develop it. These are lifestyle factors, and they can be controlled. There is even a chance that tight elastic underwear can cause it to form.

Additional Considerations

A lot of people think that overweight individuals are the only people who develop cellulite. The reality is that this condition also affects skinny people.

In many cases, problems with this condition are hereditary. According to some of the latest research, cellulite forms in areas of the body where circulation is reduced. By exercising every day, staying active and keeping your skin warm, you may be able to avoid the condition.
