If having cellulite on your thighs, buttocks, or other areas has ever caused you to put on a different outfit than what you were planning, or to not buy a piece of clothing that you really loved, our cellulite treatments at Perfect Skin Center may be right for you. While cellulite is normal and doesn’t cause health problems, it can make many people feel less confident in their appearance. At our clinics in Tempe, AZ, and Scottsdale, AZ, we offer several different treatments to help target cellulite anywhere on the body.
What Is Cellulite and What Causes It?
Cellulite is a natural occurrence that happens in the majority of women, and even some men. It is estimated that between 80% and 90% of all adult women have some cellulite, and under 10% of men have it. However, while a common occurrence, the presence of cellulite bothers many people and may even cause them to avoid wearing shorts or bathing suits in the summer.
Cellulite is caused when fat is pushed up against the skin while connective tissues simultaneously bind the skin to underlying tissues. An excess of fat, connective tissues that are too tight, and the quality of the skin can also be contributing factors in cellulite.
Cellulite is so common in women because of several different factors. In women, connective tissues have a vertical structure which can allow fat to be pushed through the web of connective tissue and cause dimpling. Women also typically have thinner skin, making this dimpling more noticeable. In men, the connective tissue crisscrosses under the skin which can minimize the presence of cellulite and the thicker skin can mask the appearance of any dimpling.
How Is Cellulite Treated?
There are many cellulite treatments available, so you and your doctor will need to discuss the treatment that is best for you. Because there are often more factors at play than simply the presence of excess fat, sometimes a simple regimen of exercising and eating healthy won’t be enough to resolve your concerns. If this is the case, we can point you toward several of our non-invasive cellulite reduction services. One of these options is Cellfina™ which is a long-lasting solution to cellulite in the buttocks and legs.
What Is Cellfina and How Does It Work?
Cellfina is one of the best cellulite treatments and it has been around for many years. Because tight connective tissues can cause dimpling, Cellfina treatments focus on releasing these connective tissues and allowing the skin to lie flat. Using a small microblade the size of a needle, we cut the connecting tissues that keep the skin dimpled down.
During treatment, we mark all of the areas that have cellulite. Then a handpiece pulls the tissue up using a gentle vacuum. Then a needle is inserted into the raised skin at different points to deliver anesthesia. Once the area is numb, the microblade is inserted into the handpiece and is moved through the area to cut the connective tissue.
After your Cellfina treatment, you should plan to limit strenuous activity for a week or more. You may have some soreness, bruising, and swelling which are also expected. You will need to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling and you should also expect small amounts of fluid to leak from the points where the microblade was inserted. This is simply tumescent fluid from the procedure and is normal.
What Other Treatments for Cellulite Are Available?
ThermiSmooth® for Cellulite
Another non-surgical cellulite treatment that we offer is ThermiSmooth. Dimples can often be more visible in the skin that is thinner and less supported by collagen and elastin. ThermiSmooth uses radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin and make it thicker through the stimulation of collagen production in the area.
ThermiSmooth is a non-invasive and relaxing procedure with no downtime. During treatment, a lubricating gel is applied to the skin and then the handpiece is moved around the treatment area where it delivers radiofrequency energy. You will feel a warm sensation similar to a hot stone massage. After treatment, you can return to your normal activities. You may have a little redness and a little swelling from the treatment, but this fades after 24 hours and won’t keep you from going back to work or enjoying other activities.
Thermage® for Cellulite
Thermage is another radiofrequency energy treatment that can target even deeper concerns in the skin. As with ThermiSmooth, Thermage can also help to stimulate collagen and elastin production and make the skin tighter and stronger. However, Thermage is a stronger treatment because it can penetrate deeper into the skin.
A handpiece is used to deliver RF energy to your skin. While it can feel warm, this device is equipped with cooling technology to help keep the surface of your skin from becoming too hot during treatment. Thermage is typically used as a skin-tightening treatment but can also help smooth away cellulite. Plus, you can get the additional benefits of skin that feels tighter and more youthful.
With radiofrequency treatments for cellulite, it can take time to see your results. As your body produces more collagen and elastin in the months after treatment, you can begin to see your skin become smoother and firmer, and your cellulite dimples can start to become less noticeable.
