How Your Body Stores Fat and Causes Cellulite

How Your Body Stores Fat and Causes Cellulite | Perfect Skin Center

The majority of women and some men are familiar with cellulite. It can cause dimpling on the skin that can interrupt the smooth contours of your legs, buttocks, arms, and other areas. If you have cellulite that bothers you, there are several treatment options that you can consider to help you achieve smoother skin.

At Perfect Skin Center, we offer treatments that can help your skin to thrive. We want you to enjoy skin that is healthy, glowing, and vibrant. Our cellulite treatments can provide a solution to concerns that many people have with their skin.

What Is Cellulite and What Causes It?

Cellulite is a harmless cosmetic concern that causes dimples and lumps on the skin. While cellulite affects less than 10% of men, 80% to 90% of women have some cellulite.

While not everything is known about cellulite and its causes, cellulite can be caused by a variety of factors and certain situations may increase your risk of having cellulite. Your skin has anchor points that attach the surface of the skin to deeper layers. When fat accumulates in the area but the connective tissue remains tight, it can cause the fat to push outward through the spaces in between the connective tissue. This can cause the appearance of dimpling on the skin.

Cellulite is thought to be more common in women because of the way that their connective tissues are structured. Connective tissues in women have a vertical pattern while they have a crisscrossing pattern in men. Women also tend to have thinner skin than men which can make cellulite more noticeable.

Different factors can contribute to whether or not you have cellulite. These can include genetics, the elasticity of your skin, lifestyle, diet, and more. Individuals of all different body types and fitness levels can be affected by cellulite.

Can Cellulite be Treated?

While many different treatments for cellulite exist including massage therapy and topical creams containing caffeine and retinol, they aren’t always effective. Many patients are looking for additional solutions that help to target some of the root causes of cellulite. At our practice, we offer different types of therapy and treatments that can help tighten and thicken the skin and break down fat cells. This can help to give your skin a smoother texture that is free from cellulite.

Cellfina® Cellulite Treatments

Cellfina is an FDA-cleared treatment that can help reduce the appearance of your cellulite in just one treatment. Cellfina targets the root cause of cellulite, the tight connective tissues that anchor the surface of your skin. During your Cellfina treatment, connective tissues are severed using the minimally invasive Cellfina device.

To begin the process, the skin in the affected area is suctioned into the device using a gentle vacuum and local anesthetic is applied to the area. Then a microblade is inserted into the device and the connective tissues are severed, allowing the skin to release and lay flat. Results from this treatment can be seen soon after treatment and it can last for three years.

ThermiSmooth®

ThermiSmooth is a non-invasive cellulite reduction treatment that uses radiofrequency energy technology to tighten the skin and promote collagen and elastin production. During a ThermiSmooth treatment, the handpiece is guided over the skin where it heats the tissue without causing burns or other damage to the surface of the skin, stimulating collagenases.

This treatment can be performed quickly in office and it comes with zero downtime. ThermiSmooth may feel like a hot stone massage and is not painful. You may need several ThermiSmooth treatments to achieve the results you are looking for, but you should notice more improvement with each session as your skin rebuilds collagen.

Thermage® Cellulite Treatments

Thermage is an FDA-approved treatment that also uses radiofrequency energy to smooth and tighten the skin. Thermage can be used to treat larger areas of the skin and it delivers energy at greater depths to provide benefits deep within the skin.

You can schedule multiple Thermage sessions if you want to further improve your skin. Appointments will be spaced several weeks apart to provide the best benefits. While you may begin to see some skin tightening in the weeks after your treatment, your benefits can continue to improve as time goes on.

Thermage includes several different technologies such as skin cooling, pulsed RF, and vibration to help increase your comfort during the procedure. This treatment requires no surgery or injections and it can treat many different areas including the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and more.

Choosing the Right Non-Invasive Cellulite Reduction Treatment for You

Choosing the right cellulite removal treatment can be challenging. That is why we offer our consultations. During your consultation, we will talk to you about your cellulite and assess the severity. Patients can have different stages of cellulite. Stage 1 is a softer form of cellulite that is only visible when you are lying down while stage 2 and stage 3 cellulite are more visible and severe.

The next part of the process is discussing all of your options for cellulite treatment and choosing the treatment that will most effectively treat the problem. Then we will set up a treatment schedule and discuss projected outcomes and what you can expect from your appointments.
