What it does is relax the skin surface by inhibiting muscle contraction. When we consult with our client and examine the facial features, we ask that certain expressions such as smiling and frowning be made. This helps us determine whether the individual can benefit from the injections.
The Ideal Candidate
Mature adults notice that the smaller, superficial wrinkles that form when the skin is relaxed or pulled become much more noticeable around the corners of the mouth, eyes, and also on the forehead. These are dynamic wrinkles, and when they form, they can make the individual look much older than they really are. The cause is thinning skin, skin that no longer retains an adequate amount of moisture, and a decrease in the amount of collagen and elastin in the skin.
During the Consultation
We may ask the client to perform some smiling, frowning, and pouting expressions. We’ll notice where the dynamic wrinkles form, how deep they are, and which muscles’ contractions are causing the smile lines and crow’s feet. Based on our observations, we’ll determine the suitable injection sites, among other details of the treatment.
BOTOX® Treatment
During the treatment session, the BOTOX® solution is skillfully injected into the preselected areas. The fluid settles down in the muscle tissue, and over the following days, neural transmission to the muscles is mostly inhibited. The client can still make normal facial expressions, but the muscles no longer fully contract. This results in less noticeable smile lines and other dynamic wrinkles on the face.
