Topical Creams
Melasma is typically treated with creams containing a different combinations of tretinoin, kojic acid, hydroquinone, and other inhibitors of skin pigmentation. Chemical peels or topical steroid creams may also be used. In severe cases, laser treatments can be used to remove the dark pigment.
Melanage Peel for Melasma
Melanage Peel is a Hydroquinone/Retinoid peel used for the treatment of hyperpigmentation on the skin. It is a superficial peel designed to improve the texture and appearance of hyperpigmented skin.
The Melanage Peel is applied by Dr. Day and her associates in the office; it is removed by the patient at home 4-6 hours later. Patients then begin to follow an at-home regimen for 7 days in order to prolong the effect of the peel.
What to expect in the week following the Melanage Peel:
• Approximately 48 hours after application of the Melanage Peel, the skin will begin to peel. This peeling lasts 2-5 days.
• Patients will receive Anti-Redness Foaming Cleanser, Anti-Redness Soothing Crème, Sensitive Skin Sunscreen, Vitamin A pads and Melanage 2 Crème to use in the days following the peel.
• Patients can expect stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminishment of fine lines and pigmentation.
• Results vary, but patients will see a significant improvement in the appearance of pigmented areas. Dark spots will lighten and skin texture and tone will improve. Some patients may not notice actual peeling, please note that you are still receiving the complete benefits of the Melanage Peel.
